 In Her BloodThe singer, Sonya Cohen, with her abilities and background, is ideally suited to the material of Last Forever. Her grandparents, composer Ruth Crawford Seeger and musicologist Charles Seeger, were pioneering proponents of American traditional music. Her father, John Cohen, and uncle, Mike Seeger, as members of the old-time music group The New Lost City Ramblers, figured prominently in the folk revival of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Her uncle, Pete Seeger, has been a guiding spirit in the folk song community for over 60 years. Sonya grew up with this music; it’s in her blood. With her sure grasp of fine shadings of pitch and rhythm, she creates performances beyond anything I could ever compose or direct.
